Friday, October 9th, Roseburg, Oregon- President Obama met with family members of the victims and survivors of last week’s mass shooting at a community college in Roseburg Oregon, just days after the October 1, 2015 mass murders which totaled nine dead and nine wounded.

5 time Emmy award winning journalist and Portland radio’s Kink Radio # 1 media personality, Sheila Hamilton, commented on the President’s visit, leaning her opinion towards a mental health angle of the Roseburg shooting. “America is the most highly medicated nation and has the most mass murders. The combination of access to lethal weapons and lack of access to quality mental health care will be this generation’s legacy of great and unforgivable loss”, said Sheila Hamilton.

October 10, 2015 was Mental Health Awareness Day and Sheila’s first book about her relationship with her bi-polar husband and his subsequent suicide, will be published on October 20th. All the Things We Never Knew: Chasing the Chaos of Mental Illness (Seal Press), covers the topic in-depth as her late husband committed suicide by gun following a 5150 hold from bi-polar disorder.

“It is not enough to give a psychotic young man a pill and hope he recovers. We must put the head back on the body and treat the root of trauma in our nation. We must reform America’s mental healthcare system to include mind, body and spirit and keep weapons out of the hands of disaffected, sick young men”.
