After a rainy start at the Monaco Grand Prix, Englishman Lewis Hamilton rocketed his Mercedes-powered car to victory. Wet roads hampered racing from the start. Not 30 seconds after the safety car left the track, British racer Jolyon Palmer lost control and skidded down the wall, his bright yellow Renault disintegrating in the process. He was not hurt. ![]() ![]()
About 30 minutes into the race, the rain stopped and drivers were finally able to open the throttles. At the finish, Port Hercule erupted with the cheers of onlookers and the horns of super yachts blowing their horns in celebration. ![]() ![]() ![]() Back on pit row, pop singer Justin Bieber was one of the first to congratulate Hamilton on his victory. For days, race fans had been pouring into Monaco. Yachts packed the port and final preparations were put in place for one of the most famous races in the world who often pay up to tens of thousands of euros for the privilege. If the Monaco Grand Prix is on your list, book early and do your research. Apartment rentals on Airbnb are booked far in advance and will set you back thousands of dollars for a few days. Another option is to book a static charter on a boat through agencies like bednboats. Once again, book early and expect to pay extra. One other option to consider is the Historic Grand Prix. I was also able to take part of that race this year. While not as popular as the big race, it was still a thrill. Accommodations are a bit less expensive and easier to find. The historic race is usually a few weeks before the Grand Prix. Here are some of the classic cars below: ![]() ![]() ![]()
